Destiny FAQ

An Explanation of Our Financial Policy

At the Destiny EpiCenter of Health & Wellness (“Destiny”) we are passionate about what we do, and we feel that we have a duty to provide our community with high quality natural health care. Our services are unique, therefore our financial policies are different than you may be used to seeing.

We hope that this handout answers most, if not all, of your questions If you have any questions after reading this, please feel free to speak with our amazing staff.

Why We Do Not File With Your Health Insurance Plan

Unfortunately, we have chosen to not to bill your health  insurance  plan directly. In general, insurance companies are not focused on any preventative or wellness services.

Insurance companies require your doctors to become participating providers. A participating provider must sign a contract that allows the insurance company to determine which services they will and will not cover, and how much your doctor can charge for those services. Health Insurance companies are heavily invested in the conventional model of health care (drugs and surgery). Our commitment is to the functional medicine model which addresses the underlying causes of your symptoms through proven specific nutritional and lifestyle recommendations.

Participating providers must agree to accept the fees the insurance company establishes, regardless of whether the fees are reasonable. The cost to provide care has risen and the reimbursement to your doctor has dramatically decreased. To make up for a lack of reimbursement, doctors must see a greater number of patients in a day, which reduces the quality of care.  We realized that we cannot stay in the insurance networks and provide the time-intensive, well-researched, expert care that you will get at the Destiny.

Why We Charge For Consultations

During consultation visits, our doctor will take significant time discussing your results with you. For example, it is relatively simple to inform a patient that her mammogram is negative; but it is entirely different to discuss the results of more complex functional evaluations and to recommend practical lifestyle and dietary strategies that may help to prevent breast cancer.  We want you to understand that preventative health care takes considerable time and expertise by the doctor.

About the Charges for Our Doctor Services

Some patients may believe that our doctor takes home the majority of the fees Destiny charges for their services; and, that the doctor has the ability to offer discounts on those fees. In fact, our doctors take home only a small fraction of the fees collected for services. This is because a clinic like ours requires trained staff and expensive professional continuing education.  The majority of our fees support the overall mission of providing high quality natural health care, not the doctorsʼ paychecks. Our doctor has chosen this work because it is her passion and certainly not to make a significant income. In fact, most medical doctors who choose to practice functional medicine know that their income will be substantially lower than it would be if they were practicing in a more conventional method, a method fully supported by the health care reimbursement system.

Why We Sell Nutritional Supplements and How We Price Them

We recommend nutritional supplements as an adjunct to dietary and lifestyle changes. This approach is central to the well-researched and science-based practice of functional medicine, which all of our professional staff have studied. We sell therapeutic quality nutritional supplements as a service to our patients.  With a few exceptions, we do not sell nutritional products of similar quality to those that are widely available over the counter.  We purchase high-quality nutritional products from the top nutritional research laboratories in North America (only available through your practitioner). We price them to cover our costs of providing them.

 No Show Fees

We reserve your appointment exclusively for you. In order that we may serve all of our patients, we ask that if you need to cancel your appointment, you provide notice not less than 24-hours prior to your scheduled appointment. For appointments cancelled with less than a 24-hour notice, cancellation fees apply: cancellation fees for an appointment with the coaches is $50 for a follow up appointment and $100 for new patient appointments. Cancellation fees for an appointment with one of our physicians is $100 for follow up and $200 for new patient appointments.

If you are going to be late for your scheduled appointment, please contact the office as soon as possible. Dependent upon the schedule, late patients may be moved to a later appointment, as close to the originally scheduled appointment as possible, or rescheduled for another day.
